Plotting a Course for Growth

The Client

Millennium Cargo Ltd is a freight and logistics company based in Birmingham. For more than 25 years they’ve been providing sea freight, air freight and road freight services to companies all over the world.

As a family-run business, honesty, integrity and good customer service are at the heart of everything they do.

The Challenge

Chadd Blunt, Managing Director, has always overseen the marketing of Millennium Cargo, and his blogs are very well received across the world. But as someone who is keen on always developing and learning new things, he was open to exploring what other marketing opportunities were available that he could take advantage of.

A contact of Chadd’s recommended that he speak to Lindsay of Lindsay Woodward Marketing. Chadd and Lindsay had several conversations, and it was agreed that creating a new strategy and 12 month plan for Millennium Cargo would be the best way forward.

 The Solution

Lindsay and Chadd spent some time together and they explored all areas of the business and the market. Through this time, we identified that Millennium Cargo would like to double its turnover.

After a thorough discovery session, Lindsay Woodward Marketing went away, armed with a huge amount of information, and plotted a course for how Millennium Cargo’s goals could be achievable.

Over a period of a couple of months, we did a lot of further research, looking at customers, competitors and the current state of the market, as well as exploring internal factors, such as what marketing activity had been done to date and what had been most effective.

From here, we were able to build a well constructed strategy and 12 month plan that outlined the key actions to get Millennium Cargo on the road to growth.

While we didn’t think it would be possible to double the turnover within just a 12 month period, the plan detailed how Millennium Cargo could strengthen its foundations to get it on the road to reach its goals in as quick a time as possible, with long term and short term marketing activities built into the plan for good balance.

 The Result

The plan was the first of its kind that Chadd had seen and it gave him a great deal to consider.

Chadd said: “I thought the research that Lindsay shared was really interesting. While I know the logistics market really well, Lindsay was able to break down the results of our marketing to date in a different way, showing us technically how things had been performing and highlighting where barriers might exist.

“The strategy and plan were so detailed that it’s given me a lot to think about, and I’m currently discussing it all with my business mentors. To know that there is a way carved out for us to reach a huge goal is amazing, and I was very impressed with Lindsay’s marketing knowledge. I can’t wait to see what the next few years hold for Millennium Cargo.

“The sessions I spent with Lindsay, exploring our business and how we could move forward, were great fun. No idea was off the table, and it’s great to have the freedom to work on your business rather than in it.

“I would recommend that every business takes the time to build a strategy in this way, especially if they’re looking for growth. It’s really opened my mind.”
